چکیده
autoimmune disorders, most notably myasthenia gravis (MG) which is seen in up to 40% of cases.1,2 There are also a number of other less common autoimmune disorders associated with thymoma, including hyperexcitability syndromes,3 myositis,1 encephalitis,4 autonomic dysfunction,5 and lupus.6 In 2004 Vernino and Lennon7 reported autoimmune sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) in two patients from their series of 201 patients with thymoma, a previously unreported association. A third case of paraneoplastic SNHL asociated with thymoma was reported by Evoli et al.8 We now report a patient presenting with SNHL several years before a diagnosis of malignant thymoma was made. This newly recognized association justifies screening for thymoma as part of the work-up for autoimmune SNHL.

متن کاملSensorineural deafness inherited as a tissue specific mitochondrial disorder.
We present here a large Israeli-Arab kindred with hereditary deafness. In this family 55 deaf subjects (29M, 26F), who are otherwise healthy, have been identified and traced back five generations to one common female ancestor. The deafness is progressive in nature, usually presenting in infancy and childhood. Audiometry on six deaf and seven unaffected subjects was consistent with severe to pro...

We report on a 22-year-old male patient and his father, both presenting with congenital sensorineural deafness, diffuse palmoplantar keratoderma and knuckle pads. These findings are similar to those previously described in the Bart-Pumphrey syndrome, a rare autosomal dominant disorder. Several conditions including keratoderma and deafness are briefly reviewed.
متن کاملMyasthenia gravis and thymoma coexisting with myotonic dystrophy type 1
We describe a 34-year old man presenting with subacute generalized myasthenic symptoms. His clinical features and laboratory investigations demonstrated both myasthenia gravis and myotonic dystrophy type 1. The computerized tomography of chest revealed anterior mediastinal mass. The lymphocyte-rich thymoma was removed surgically and he received radiotherapy. Recent observations suggested that t...
